I grew up reading my parents' physics and medical books, while understanding little of them. A love of science and math as well as art took me from art school to scientific illustration, leading to a BFA and MFA in Medical Illustration from the University of Michigan. The pull of scientific inquiry still directs my work.

My current work combines printmaking, digital techniques and various painting media. Cut forms have always been part of it. I don't think in rectangles, but shapes. The edge excites me. Like cave paintings, there are no borders, so form can move into the surrounding space.

Scientific theories of energy, waves, strings, and quanta, and our perceptions of the universe, macro and micro, physical and psychological, are modern myths we tell ourselves. They may be only shadows on a cave wall. I just want to do the cave paintings.
